The Open Call for the next Experimental Fellowship, in partnership with material data platform revalu is now open.
Experimental Foundation’s Spring Fellowship with revalu supports practice based research by emerging architectural practices with applied industry experience. The Fellowship is aimed at practitioners who seek to contribute to a transformative shift in the building sector. It is intended for architects collaborating with clients (developers, public or private) or industry partners who seek to implement regenerative, circular, and climate-conscious solutions in pilot projects, through innovative, systemic-analytical approaches.
With a focus on applied project planning and delivery processes, and the exchange and dissemination of knowledge, the Fellowship strengthens both research and practical implementation. It enables architects to test and document strategies with regenerative materials, while expanding their expertise and professional visibility. At its core is “Phase Zero” – the initial concept and design phase – where participants assess existing conditions, analyze needs, monitor life cycles, and make informed decisions about materials, interventions, and collaborations.
This Fellowship brings together Experimental Foundation’s expertise and network in practice-based, systemic-analytical architectural research with revalu’s digital infrastructure for low-carbon material decision-making throughout Europe. It empowers talented emerging practitioners to expand and apply their expertise while turning investigations into applied solutions, through active collaboration and co-design with the Experimental Foundation and with us at revalu. Working with the revalu material library, grounded in up-to-date EPD data and a collaborative digital workspace, teams can develop and document choices with greater speed, clarity, and traceability. The partnership adds a practical layer of guidance and networked expertise, so “Phase Zero” decisions translate into approval-ready specifications and credible evidence for implementation.
Support is provided over a period of nine to twelve months, aligned to project status, feasibility, and demonstrated need. Funding amounts of up to 5,000 EUR per month, and 60,000 EUR in total, are available per project proposal. Funding may cover research-related costs only, and excludes construction costs.
The Experimental Fellowship provides fellows with financial support, time and space in a practice-driven intellectual environment, with professional mentorship, local and global networks. Fellows transform their knowledge into actionable solutions, inspiring the market and demonstrating the potential of new design and material processes. Proposals are welcome across diverse typologies and scales within the European region.
The Experimental Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by architect Prof. Regine Leibinger. Since 2022, the foundation has promoted sustainable architectural projects and practices that contribute to a transformative shift in the building sector. Based in Berlin and active internationally, its work supports architects in developing, testing, and implementing experimental approaches at the intersection of research, design, and building practice.
At revalu, we are a digital platform that supports teams across the AEC industry in making better material decisions—faster, easier, and in favour of low-carbon options. We bring together free access to an open library of over 35,000 up-to-date construction products and subscription-based collaborative workspaces that support organized, transparent material workflows.
The open call is open from January 28 to March 2, 11:59pm CET.
Applications must be submitted in English using the Application Form.
